The emergency room doctor, in an effort to calm my meningitis fears, gave me several warning signs to look for:
- Concerted effort not to move neck; patient will move entire body to look at something, stabilizing neck.
- Crying when put in a sitting or standing position.
- Showing no affection or desire to be held; patient is much happier laying by themselves than with others
- Seizure activity does not stop without medical intervention
- Diarrhea is NOT a sign of meningitis, but a typical virus
The only things that have calmed Drew this morning are being held by me with his neck turned toward the television and sitting on the couch watching Barney. I'm certain he has a virus, but another trip to the doctors office won't hurt.

Hope Drew gets better quick! It is no fun to have a sick child.
Our son had a febrile seizure when he was 2 years old and it was frightening! He had a viral AND bacterial infection at the same time and his fever spiked. He spent several days in the hospital until he was well enough to come home.
Hope you get some answers today from the doctor. Will think good thoughts for you!
We had the men.scares at age 3,4,and 5. Three years in a row Gage got a fever above 102.5 and I could only drop it down to 101. This went on for a week, but no other symptoms. It was a "fever virus"...? It's nerve wrecking I know.
Sounds like he has a nasty bug- I hope his fever comes down quickly and that he can get back to the business of being an adventuresome toddler.
I hope he starts feeling better soon. To help ease your worries, Kevin has had many fevers spike pretty high with no real other symptoms. There are so many childhood illnesses that kids get! It doesn't make it any easier on you, though. He didn't by any chance just get mapped, did he? For some unexplainable reason, Kevin used to get a high fever right after his mapping appts. (about 4 times in a row)
Sure hope Drew is feeling better soon! Hope you kind find some kind of answer today from the doctor.
Sorry about my post, my finger's don't seem to be working very well today. I meant to say, I hope you find some answers at the doctor.
I hope the lil guy is feeling better!
Get better soon, sweet boy.
PS, sorry if this is a double post.
